We were excited to be heading back across Europe, this time to one of the most glamorous European destinations: St Tropez.
As always, the tour was completely bespoke and created from scratch by our sister company Four Marks Tours. Carefully considered driving roads, hotels with parking suited to supercars and fabulous excursions.
The tour team of Greg, Stuart, Hans & Jason were joined this year by the two Joshes of our tour media partner Kenekt Studios, who were on hand to capture the fun in ultra HD!
In part 1 we explore days 1-5 where we kick off at Champneys 5 Star Hotel & Spa and then set off into France, down past Reimes and into Lyon. We then depart Lyon and head down to St Tropez on the southern coast. It’s then across to Girona in Spain.

The Day Before Day 1 – Champneys | UK
Whilst the first day was an unofficial day, we gathered in Kent to ready ourselves for the first day of driving, the vast majority of us stayed at a 5 Star Champneys Hotel.

Thanks to our friends at Sevenoaks Ferrari we were greeted by a Champagne reception in a private room. This was a wonderful start to our tour and helped set the scene for what was in store.

Day 1 – UK to Lyon
After a lovely social evening and a rest, it was time to get the cars fired up. It was a miserable day in Blighty, but spirits were high as we dreamed of St Tropez. All drivers and co-pilots packed their cars and paused for a photo as we set off.

Off we set and it was first to the tunnel, where all cars boarded together to catch the same train across.
Once in France we gathered at the watering hole for the first time. Last chance to top up and get supplies for our run down to Lyon.

After a short drive we stopped off at the famous circuit Reims-Gueux, where you can still see, and walk around the old grandstands.
The circuit Reims-Gueux was a motor racing circuit made up of rural public roads, located in Gueux, 5 miles west of Reims in the Champagne region of north-eastern France, established in 1926 as the second venue of the Grand Prix de la Marne.

After exploring the old grounds we set the cars up for a drive by with the media team to capture.

It was now lunchtime so we headed to a local restaurant where we had reserved tables. After we had refuelled ourselves, it was time to get back on the road and head to our first French hotel in Lyon. We were never that far away from a great photo!

Upon arrival in the city of Lyon, we headed directly to our 5 star hotel on the banks of the river Rhône. We had reserved secure underground parking for our cars and once parked up safely, our guests headed to the reception lobby to find we had our own reception area! All our guest’s keys were ready and waiting, along with complimentary welcome Champagne!

Day 2 – Lyon to St Tropez
It was the morning of Day 2 and we gathered in the restaurant for breakfast, excited for our next driving stint south to St Tropez.

Breakfast overlooking the River Rhône

More amazing driving today as we head south to warmer climes, all set to an incredible backdrop that is difficult to capture in words, or even images!

Compelled to pull over in the sunshine and reflect on the excitement that preceded! Stunning roads in beautiful cars, with an extraordinary soundtrack!

Saint-Tropez is a coastal town located in the French Riviera on the Côte d’Azur and as we arrive, the whole vibe of the place is sunshine and luxury vibes. Our hotel is no different, perfectly placed in an elevated position overlooking the sea.
Saint-Tropez itself is home to world-class beaches, including Pampelonne Beach, which is known for its beach clubs and upscale restaurants.

Once again, a Champagne reception was waiting for us as we arrived. With a cold glass in hand, we walked out onto the veranda and saw the views for the first time! Wow!

Tonight we were heading to the harbour for sunset and dinner. The gents gathered for ‘one more’ whilst the ladies pampered themselves and got dressed leisurely.
For once everyone was ready, we arranged luxury shuttles to take us to the waterfront to see the sun go down over the sea.

The weather was perfect as we casually wandered and explored the coastal town in couples and groups.
A small group found themselves together at the waterfront so we quickly captured the moment above.

Dinner tonight was in the prime place in town, at a restaurant overlooking the seafront with the luxury yachts just outside the window, bobbing around gently.
After dinner, it was time to decide whether to explore further, go back and enjoy the facilities and view from our 5 star hotel or stay in town for drinks. Our luxury carriages were on hand to transport people as they liked. Tonight was a fabulous night and the memories created will never be forgotten by any of our guests.

Day 3 – St Tropez, France to Girona, Spain

After a leisurely breakfast, we’re back in the cars heading towards Spain! More phenomenal drives and vistas were waiting for us as we tore through the mountain passes…

On route, we stopped for lunch and visit to the Arenes d’Arles Amphitheatre. Built by the Romans in 90 AD, the amphitheatre held over 20,000 spectators of chariot races and bloody hand-to-hand battles.

After another exciting day of driving, we arrive at this beautiful white mansion house where our guests once again had their keys already reserved.
We had reserved the entire courtyard for not just the parking of our cars, but displaying them too!

We had to break the news to our guests that there was not a glass of Champagne for them on arrival tonight………..
Instead, they had their own chilled bottle of Möet & Chandon waiting for them in their room!

Once settled into our hotel, most met up at one of their two spas for an afternoon of relaxation. Most agreed that this was one of the largest spas they had ever seen. It was state of the art with elevated, fully glass saunas with indoor and outdoor hot tub spas to unwind in.

First Evening in Girona, Spain

It was time to get dressed up and ready for our private dining experience in the grand dining hall, a gorgeous room all to ourselves.

Our very own podcast king Colin B was kind enough to do a quick speech thanking everyone for joining us, the team that helped put the tour together plus all the helpers and suppliers for making it happen.

Our Second Day in Girona, Spain

Today our guests had the choice of a lazy day using the spa facilities, going for a walk or just lounging around the hotel, or to come with us on a coastal drive.
Those going for the latter gathered at their cars ready to go!

After a wonderful day of driving, lunch and yet more incredible driving, it was time to head back to the hotel as we had laid on a coach to take us into the stunning medieval city of Girona to explore further and go for dinner.

One highlight was visiting Girona’s cathedral featured in the hit TV series ‘Game of Thrones’. On arriving at the 11th-century church you feel small. The 91 steps that the character Sir Jaime Lannister galloped up to confront the Faith of the Seven. The colossal cathedral itself dominates the skyline of the old town, its colossal Baroque façade stretching skywards.

Of course, these 3 lunes decided they could race to the top, pausing at the top to take a selfie with the others watching below. Greg commented ‘It didn’t look that far until I was about halfway up and then realised!’
The rest of the evening was spent in Girona where we feasted for dinner in true Game of Thrones style. Our coach collected us at the end of the night and returned us to the mansion for more socialising or for some, that was enough and bed was beckoning.
We will cover day 6 which is where we travel from Girona to Velha in our next instalment. Watch this space for more!
