The Lakes | A Lake District Tour

We set off on our 7th tour where we head north to stay over with the backdrop to some of the most beautiful scenery in our country! The Lake District.

First, lets see what cars came along:

  1. McLaren 750s Spider
  2. Porsche 911 Turbo Cabrio
  3. Mercedes AMG GT
  4. Lotus Emira
  5. Ferrari Roma Spider
  6. Porsche 911 GT3
  7. Maserati GranCabrio MC
  8. Porsche Boxster GTS
  9. McLaren 650s Spider
  10. Aston Martin DB11 V12 AMR
  11. McLaren 570s Spider

With 11 supercars all set, half the crew met at Caffeine & Machine: the hut in Hampshire for bacon rolls and the first drivers briefing.

It was time to hit the road and head north towards meeting point 2 in Warwickshire…

Meeting point two is where we pick up the second half of the squad at Caffeine & Machine: the hill. An opportunity to grab lunch and to get the main drivers briefing complete.

Before long we were back on the road and heading further north towards our first stop over of the tour. Tonight we were staying in a secret location: a Castle!

On arrival we parked our cars inside what they call The Ward, the area inside the castle outer walls. This area is not normally open available for parking but a private hire sorted that for our guests!

We had some free time before dinner so it was an opportunity to explore the castle and grounds before a welcome drink and dinner in a private dining room, just for us.

After which, it was time to head to bed and needless to say, all the rooms were very individual!

As morning broke and our inclusive breakfast was enjoyed, it was time to break the news to our unsuspecting guests! We were visiting our brand partner; British sports car manufacture BAC, for an intimate tour of their factory and facilities! The tour was led by their very own Head of Finance & Operations; Luke!

Factory tours are usually reserved for clients so this was to be a real treat and of course, a total surprise to all!

But first, a visit to the watering hole!

On arrival, Luke gave us a potted history behind the brand, the cars, the development strategy and what the future is for this iconic brand.

He was able to show us up close and personal the cars from the very early stages of assembly, all the way through to finished cars.

It was fascinating to see the components up close as well as the special materials such as carbon fibre being used so extensively.

These are not just casual track day cars, they are serious race cars for the road! Really not comparable with anything else in the market place.

What a pleasure it was to get such unapparelled access inside the inner sanctum of BAC from one of the team heads.

Following the tour, Luke decided to lead us in convoy into Liverpool city centre to show us some of the landmarks of this beautiful city, including Penny Lane Bus Station where Paul McCartney wrote that famous song, the iconic Liver Building and more.

It was time for lunch and nothing had been left to chance as we had booked reserved parking at BAC’s favourite local restaurant!

After lunch it was time to continue heading north towards the beautiful Lake District and our second hotel of the tour which resides on the banks of Lake Windermere.

This gorgeous luxury boutique hotel was the perfect base for our coming adventures. Once again, plenty of time to explore the grounds and gaze across the lake in front of us.

With carefully reserved supercar parking for our guests right outside the entrance, we knew the cars were safe too.

Tonight’s dinner was again set in a private dining suite overlooking the lake. This is what dining dreams are made of!

Another opportunity to reflect on our BAC tour, share stories with each other and reflect on what we had enjoyed so far.

After breakfast it was time to take the driving into the mountains for some proper Lake District driving!

The weather was perfect for it too as we looked across what felt like a dozen lakes and valleys. Plenty of opportunities for photos as we tried to take it all in.

The driving was so addictive we almost didn’t make it back for our Four Marks Tours included afternoon tea!

Once again, we were back in our private dining suite overlooking the lake while we tucked in and continued sharing stories of what we’d seen today.

A casual night tonight with many of us heading into town to take in the surprisingly active nightlife! Arriving back though, the temptation to go and take in the twinkling lights of Lake Windermere were just too great.

While it was time to leave Lake Windermere, we still were able to take advantage of the beautiful countryside as we meandered south.

This fabulous hotel, owned by a supercar collector, was just the ticket having been recently refurbished at considerable expense with upgraded rooms for all our guests including balcony’s or garden terraces for all.

Within the grounds of this Polo Club estate is their own pub. Too good an opportunity to miss having dinner, just a short walk or a lift in golf buggies!

A wonderful ‘Last Supper’ before we head home in the morning. Some commented that this 7th tour was the best one yet. We might agree!
