Day 3 to 6 – Dijon to Nurburg via Luxembourg

As dawn breaks, we leave our final château and head north towards the Nürburgring in Germany. The final stop of our European tour.

Not actual route but for illustrative purposes

A stop in Luxembourg for Lunch

For some, it was too good an opportunity to tick off another country and stop for lunch in the city centre of Luxembourg. A beautiful city!

On to The Ring

After a refueling of cars and people, it was time to set off for the last driving section to The Ring.

This time we’re staying overnight in what is surely the best hotel at the Ring. The Dorint is a luxury hotel overlooking the track. All our rooms were upgraded with ‘Track Views’ to ensure everyone got the very best experience.

Arrival at The Ring

As we arrived there was no time to rest, bags in the room, quickly take in the awesome view, and then it was back in the car and down to the track.

It was time for everyone to decide how brave they were. Were they going to take on ‘The Green Hell’ (as it’s known locally) in their own car, be a passenger in a sports or supercar or, sit this one out and watch?

Everyone made their choices and readied themselves for what came next……

From 18 supercars, only 7 club cars made it on track for the session. Some of the drivers managed to get snaps of their cars as they headed around the track. Here is a selection:

Ellie jumps in a race prepared Alpine and gets a fast lap with a pro driver
Tony heads out on a hot lap in this Ferrari F8 Tributo!
Cheryl heads out in the Alpine to compare the handling with her Porsche
Dominic compares his McLaren handling with this Ferrari F8 Tributo in a flying pro driver lap

As the sun goes down….

And finally, it was the last night of our tour and we all gathered for a farewell dinner at the Dorint. We basically took over the restaurant and had it to ourselves. We reflected on the 7 previous days of traveling, the highlights, and the stories that everyone will share for years to come.

The final drive home….

The next morning it was time to leave a hotel for the final time and head back to the UK. For reasons we understand as ‘what happens on tour, stays on tour’, one team had to fly home, rather than drive. We thought this was the perfect opportunity to have a Top Gear style race home.

So could a supercar drive home quicker than it would take to get a taxi from the hotel to the airport, fly back to the UK, then get a taxi from the airport in the UK back to home?

The two teams were poised and ready to race……

After hours of driving, and ticking off Belgium in the process, the supercars arrived at the Eurotunnel Le Shuttle, meanwhile, the other team were already in the air!

Whilst some owners cleaned their cars as they went, other cars were by now seriously needing a clean!

With the supercars now back in the UK, the heavens opened! The on-foot team were now in a taxi racing home but who get home first……..?

In the end, the on-foot team made it home first by just 10 minutes!!

Final wrap up

This concludes the European Tour for 2022 and we look forward to what tour 2023 brings. Stay tuned!

The club would like to thank all the participants that took part in this crazy adventure, to club photographer Mark Houldridge who joined us for the initial leg of the journey. To club member Andy M who arranged and coordinated the tour way in advance (despite not being able to make it himself), and to club member Stuart S who, as a seasoned European drive tour veteran, was able to assist and guide us before and throughout the tour.

Keep your eyes peeled for our next news story…….
