Behind Closed Doors: Our Exclusive Tour of the Legendary Prodrive Factory
How many times have we all cruised up the M40, cast a longing glance at that massive Prodrive facility, and thought, “I would absolutely love to see what goes on in there”? Well, we were very lucky to go back for the second time! Our club was recently treated to a private, intimate tour of this absolute powerhouse of British motorsport engineering, and it was everything we hoped for and more.

A High-Tech Playground for Automotive Wizards
Nestled in the heart of Oxfordshire, Prodrive is less of a traditional factory and more of a high-tech playground where rally-bred dreams become reality. The moment you step inside, you enter a bustling hive of activity. You are instantly hit by the intoxicating scent of carbon fibre, the symphony of whirring machinery, and the palpable buzz of brilliant minds at work. If you pause and take it all in, you can almost hear the echoes of Colin McRae sliding a legendary Subaru through a Welsh forest.

Mad Scientists Making Motorsport Legends
These engineers aren’t just bolting metal together; they are crafting sheer automotive masterpieces. Think of them as the mad scientists of the car world—but instead of monsters, they build legends that are just as wild! The facility is a masterclass in engineering versatility, blending rich motorsport history with cutting-edge innovation.
During our tour, we saw firsthand how they push the boundaries of what’s possible:
- Precision Engineering: Developing bespoke, ultra-lightweight carbon fibre components for hypercars.
- Motorsport Dominance: Building world-beating rally cars designed to withstand the harshest conditions on Earth.
- Future Tech: Pioneering advanced sustainable fuel solutions and cutting-edge electric vehicle systems.
- Aerodynamics & Power: Designing intricate aerodynamic solutions and fine-tuning complex engine management systems.

They are the ultimate go-to team for anyone looking to take their automotive ambitions to the next level. If you want something done properly (and have a suitably large chequebook), Prodrive is the automotive equivalent of a Swiss Army knife—just with a serious performance upgrade.

Secrets, Simulators, and Socializing
Understandably, a facility developing such cutting-edge technology is highly classified. We weren’t allowed to take many photos inside the workshop, but honestly, the strict secrecy only made the experience feel more exclusive and special!
We wrapped up our incredible visit by gathering in the lounge for a fantastic lunch, mixing with fellow members, and engaging in some fierce club rivalry. We all took turns trying to nail the fastest lap on their state-of-the-art simulator—which just so happens to be designed by Ian Callum, the genius behind some of the finest-looking Aston Martins of all time.
A truly unforgettable day out for the club!
