The Porsche 911. Possibly the most iconic supercar of our time?
Chris tells us in this month’s featured members car, the back story to him buying this rather special 911, in his own words.
The Beginning
It was in 2016 after my father passed away, my wife and I decided we needed to be a bit more carefree living with our lives and enjoy the moment more. I had been looking for a car investment for about 6 months, and being a VW fan I was looking at old school split screen campers to Mark 1 Golf GTI’s which I had owned a few, over the years . I had noticed a lot of magazine articles and forums mentioning about how the 911 (996) C4S and Turbo markets seem to be climbing and had perhaps reached their lower value and how they possibly would become a classic car in the future.
The Search
We decided to start searching the usual forums/internet and trade magazines After driving a few, I decided it had to be a manual version with no sunroof, ideally black or blue in colour, black leather and as many options as possible. The manual version just gave so much more of a driving experience compared to the Tiptronic (auto).

Meant to be?
I had found a lovely black example in north London and was about to pull the trigger on the deal after viewing the car for second time but the seller was hesitant for me to have an inspection .After reading a lot of forums of what to look out for, IMS bearing replacements, rear main oil seal (RMS) , rads, condensers and bore score test. I decided to leave it and on the way home, the wife phoned and said she had seen a silver one in Marlow (first thought I don’t like silver and they look so boring). She said it had a body/aero kit and looked nice, so I pulled over, checked and gave the guy a call.
It was a trade seller who had taken it in part exchange, he mentioned the car had full Hartec rebuild (Renowned Porsche engine rebuilders) and had been regular serviced by them since. Full service history and lots of paperwork and one of the cleanest versions he had seen and we would not be disappointed. We decided to detour and go to view the car.
Love at First Sight?
When I turned up at the private house, their she was sitting there in the barn converted garage next to a Red Porsche 964, Black Porsche 996 GT3, Range Rover Vogue and Ford RS Cosworth. As Cameron showed me around his car, I started to think this is the one! 2 hours later and a couple of coffees I had agreed to buy it and put a deposit down, I collected the car 2 days later.

2 Years On
Since owning the car, it’s been a great joy to drive and always brings a smile to the family faces when out on drives /rallies and events.
Runnings costs have not been a lot over the past 2 years of ownership, annually serviced for peace of mind as only doing around 2k per year. The biggest cost being last year we decided to replace the clutch and flywheel when doing the annual service. Luckily I have several mechanic friends who can source the parts cheaply and get my Indy (Simon @ AMD Woking) to carry out the works. Total was £1100.00.
The Four Marks Car Club has certainly grown over the last 18 months we have been part of it and look forward to meeting a lot more of you guys and girls in the future.
