Most of those joining us in Italy later this year gathered together in a secret invite-only location for a mission briefing…. We were also shown a very special and famous vehicle worth £17m!
As we ready ourselves for our upcoming Euro Tour to the Italian Lakes, those available met up at an exceptional location to discuss the tour in more detail. This took us to HMS Excellent in Portsmouth, Hampshire.
A very special and valuable vehicle
This Maritime Warfare School on Whale Island is off limits to the public but through our ever-building contact database, we were delighted to receive a rare invite for a private tour of the facility.
The facility tour included an up close and personal view of the late Queen’s Royal Navy State Funeral Gun Carriage that she used to make her final journey from Westminster Hall to Westminster Abbey.
This is the same gun carriage that Queen Victoria used for the same purpose as well as a number of others such as Winston Churchill.
The carriage itself is estimated to be worth some £17,000,000!
HMS Excellent is a unique shore establishment which has its roots in more than 100 years of naval history. It is a place where the Royal Navy trains its personnel for life at sea or deployed operations. The establishment is a vital part of the Royal Navy’s training network and plays a key role in ensuring that the Navy is ready to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
Whilst at this historic venue, we were all served a delicious cooked breakfast in the Wardroom.
